Believe: The Words and Inspiration of Desmond Tutu

I enjoyed reading the short book Believe: The Words and Inspiration of Desmond Tutu. It’s a great little coffee table book filled with thought-provoking quotes and inspiration from this man who is an incredible gift to our world! Here are a couple of those quotes to whet your appetite:

“In a happy family you don’t receive in proportion to your input. You receive in relation to your needs.”

“My father always used to say, ‘Don’t raise your voice. Improve your argument.’ Good sense does not always lie with the loudest shouters, nor can we say that a large, unruly crowd is always the best arbiter of what is right.”

“Differences are not intended to separate, to alienate. We are different precisely in order to realize our need of one another.”

“We humans can tolerate suffering, but we cannot tolerate meaninglessness.”

Two Awesome Soccer Goals – David Beckham and USA Women’s Team

I’m not a big soccer fan, but here are two sweet goals from this weekend – one is a corner shot directly into the net by David Beckham, the other is a perfect pass and header by the USA women’s team!

Pastor Bob Thune Resigns

This weekend at Southwest Community Church our Lead Pastor, Bob Thune, announced that after 7 years, he is resigning. Thune’s tenure has “been highlighted with high moral integrity and a deep commitment to the word of God,” elder board chairman Don Bennett told the congregation. While these moments are sad (as we well know), there is also the anticipation of God turning the page and the beginning of a new chapter, so for that we are filled with hope and anticipation. Here is a writeup on MyDesert.com. Please keep our church in prayer during this season of transition.

Rich Collingridge Visit

We were SO happy to have our good friend Pastor Rich Collingridge come out and see us this morning. He and Esther are here in California for a family reunion, and it was very kind of him to drive out and visit with us. (Does that mean we are family?) Rich and I went out for breakfast then we went back to our condo where he was able to visit with Ady and the girls.
