Suffolk, VA Tornado

Wow! The tornado that touched down in Suffolk, Virginia … just minutes from our old house. Ady used to drive right on this road to her job. Scary! Thank God for His protection!

I Tawt I Taw A Twitter Tat!

So I jumped in and started doing something to help a friend win a bet he had with Doug Fields, and now I’m addicted. I joined http://www.twitter.com/. So, do you twitter? “What is it?” you ask. Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? It may sound a little stalker-ish, but I only have like 10 people stalking me, so it’s not that bad. Just kidding! You can actually pick and choose who you want to follow and who can follow you. It’s just a fun way to write a sentence about what you’re doing. Anyhoo … my life must pretty much be a bore to write about how i want people to know what I’m up to. lol

Movie Review: "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed"

Today I went to the movie theater to see the new documentary Expelled featuring Ben Stein. It was very intriguing and fascinating. Ben Stein did a good job approaching the topic of evolution and intelligent design objectively and asking open, very good, and thought-provoking questions.

It was definitely a documentary; so don’t go to the theater thinking you’re going to see a “movie.” Nevertheless, the content was fantastic. He compared what is happening in America to what happened in Nazi Germany, and that in and of itself was eye-opening and challenging. If nothing else, definitely get it when it comes out on DVD. I think it would be great to take an evening to watch and discuss the movie in a small group setting.

Visit the movie’s website for a detailed description of the movie, the questions and issues it raises, and resources for taking the movie and it’s message to a deeper level: http://www.expelledthemovie.com/

Deeper Desire for True Community

The Lord is really deepening within me a desire for deeper community with others, and a passion for reaching the unchurched. My wife and I are praying about starting our own small group of a few couples who can get together to just talk and share. This group could very well, and I am hoping will, include some unchurched. I realize that as much as I have a passion for small groups, i am not really participating in one in which I am simply a member. I am always “in charge” or attending as an overseer, but I know the Lord wants me to begin living in a small group. I think that this – whether the students know it’s happening in my life or not – will have a dramatic impact on the success of our student small groups because their leader is “practicing what he’s preaching.” Pray for us as we reach out to our neighbors and others to join us in a quest for true community.

Wedding Day

Today I had the privilege of marrying Victor and Megan Jimenez, two members of our church. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding and it was a joy to be a part of their special day. My prayers and best wishes to them as they begin their new life together!
