Yankees Game With An Old Friend

Yesterday my friend Jonathan Schwandt was in New York City doing some work for Rhema Home Orphanage, a ministry his parents founded in Nairobi, Kenya, and which he serves as the Director for the USA. Before heading back to Rochester, he and his coworker Lance decided to take in a Yankees game and invited me to join them. Jonny and I met as teenagers in Kenya when I was there as a teenager in 1991. We attended Bible College together a few years later. It was so great seeing him again after all these years.

Natalia Flies to Chicago to See Nana and Pappy … All By Herself!

This morning I took Natalia to the airport for her first-ever flight by herself. She flew to Chicago to spend two weeks with Nana and Pappy Mahaffy while we are in Peru. So proud of our little girl. She’s so responsible and mature. Growing up so fast!

Made it safely! Happy to be with Nana!

Commissioning Our Summer Mission Teams

This morning our Shelter Rock Church Manhasset Campus prayed over and commissioned our Student Ministries Mission Teams. Our Sr. High team of 41 is heading to Lima, Peru next week, and our Jr. High team of 29 is going to Taccoa, Georgia in mid-July. Next Sunday our team will be prayed over at our Syosset Campus. Please join us in praying for our trips by downloading the Prayer Guide here.

Yankees vs. Dodgers with My Girls

Adriana and I were supposed to go to the Yankees vs. Dodgers game last night with our friend Tommy and Naomi. However, the game got rained out and postponed until today. Adriana and Naomi had to work, so today Tommy and I went with my daughters Claudia and Natalia. What a perfect day for a baseball game! 75 degrees out, sunny … beautiful! It was the first time the Yankees have hosted the Dodgers since game 6 of the 1981 World Series, and the first time for Don Mattinly to return to the Bronx as the Dodger’s manager. The Yankees won 6-4 and we got to see Mariano Rivera’s 25th save of the year. Now we hope they win game 2 of the double-header tonight. See all the pics here.

The Walking Tree

The Walking Tree. All I can say is look out for these guys! Claudia and I went to their first full-length CD Release concert on Monday night, and they were way better than I was expecting. These guys are talented! It won’t be long before they’re a household name among alternative rock fans. They put on a fantastic show and have a great sound. They have a long history with Long Island Youth For Christ, and I can’t wait to see where God takes them. I’m so glad to call them our friends. Check out the concert pics here.
